Some might feel that this isn’t Ben Scrivens ’ week. He was up and traded to hometown Edmonton less than a year from being traded to Los Angeles. Now the newly acquired goaltender for Edmonton, their 5th tender of the season, has lashed out at the editor of the Slam! Sports blog over an article involving his wife Jenny Scrivens.
The article focused on how Jenny Scrivens was unhappy to be going to Edmonton due to the weather and the editor Anthony Vasquez-Peddie took tweets from the Mrs. Scrivens’ account and published them in his piece.
Scrivens took to Twitter defending his wife and going after Vasquez-Peddie stating that he “cherry-picked” certain tweets to make it appear that Jenny Scrivens didn’t like Edmonton. He also called the act “gutless.”
Scrivens didn’t end there as he called out commenters of the article who accused his wife of “being lazy” and that “she only married him because he was rich,” “she was dumb” to which he clarified by pointing out she is an Ivy League graduate and they were wed when he was still in the American Hockey League.
Vasquez-Peddie replied directly to Scrivens letting him know it was a tongue-in-cheek article and called it “ gossipy clickbait” while trying to clarify the point of the blog.
To make matters worse, his first game with his hometown team ended in a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild.
Hopefully, after this rocky start the Oilers’ netminder and his family can settle in and move past the “gossipy clickbait” that kicked off his Oilers’ career.Oilers’ Ben Scrivens slams sports blog via Twitter over article about wife. by Thomas Fernandez
