A’s to Offer Spanish Broadcasts on KIQI and In-State Radio Network
Oakland Will Air 69 Weeknight and Weekend Home Games in Espanol

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland Athletics announced today that they have reached a one-year agreement to broadcast 69 weeknight and weekend home games in Spanish on radio station KIQI (1010 AM, San Francisco) and the team’s in-state radio network during the 2013 season. The broadcast schedule kicks off with Bay Bridge Series exhibition game against the Giants Saturday, March 30, followed by 68 regular-season games.

The radio network will consist of KATD 990 AM (Sacramento), KWRU 1300 AM (Fresno) and KEJY 790 AM (Eureka). The club also announced that veteran play-by-play man Amaury Pi-González and color analyst Manolo Hernández-Douen will again serve as the broadcasting team for all games aired in Spanish.

Pi-González, a pioneer in establishing Spanish baseball radio play-by-play in the Bay Area, enters his 36th season in Major League Baseball. He began his career in 1977 with the Athletics, and has also broadcast for the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angels. He has called the 1988, 1989 and 1990 World Series for the A’s and the 2002 Series for the Giants. Pi-González is an elected member of the Cuban Sports Hall of Fame, the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Hall of Fame and the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame,

Hernández-Douen, a long-time sportswriter, begins his fourth season as an A’s analyst. He boasts more than 41 years of experience in journalism, and has covered a variety of sports during that span. The Caracas, Venezuela native has reported on Olympic and Pan American Games, world championship boxing matches and winter league baseball, including the Carribean World Series. Since moving to California in 1982, Hernández-Douen has covered the NBA and MLB for several of the highest circulation newspapers in the United States, including La Opinión in Los Angeles.
