Noles Hope Speedy Defense Can Stop Clemson

Seminoles_Demonte_McAllister_2013 [1]TALLAHASSEE — It took nearly a month for Florida State to face its first test against a potent spread offense.

FSU stifled then-No. 25 Maryland’s wide-open offense, which was tearing apart defenses during the first month of the season. The Seminoles shut out the Terrapins 63-0 and surrendered 234 yards of total offense, highlighting what new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt’s scheme is built for: Speed.

“It was a big change because Boston College wanted to run the ball downhill and Maryland wanted to get the ball to the edges,” FSU linebacker Terrance Smith said. “Based off the speed we have on our defense, we like to run around and make plays out in the open field.”
