Buccaneers guard Carl Nicks was recently diagnosed with a recurrence of a MRSA infection in his left foot that kept him out of last week’s game against the Eagles. Nicks first contracted MRSA during training camp in August and the Buccaneers announced Wednesday that he underwent surgery on the foot.
The specifics of the operation were not announced, however.
While there is no timetable for Nicks’ return, it is probably safe to say that the team will have to go with other options at left guard for the immediate future. Patrick Omameh and Jeremy Zuttah are potential fits but there is also complication in the fact that right guard Davin Joseph also missed practice on Wednesday and is considered day-to-day with a knee injury.
