Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos spoke to the media as he was cleaning out his locker.
“It’s obviously disappointing. It feels like it was just yesterday that we were all excited about clinching a playoff spot and now to be out in that fashion is obviously very disappointing for our group. When you’re out it doesn’t take long for you to realize that you’re longer in it.”
(On this experience being a lesson)
“Yeah I hope so I mean I think guys realize that we were obviously proud of the way we played this year especially everything we had to deal with as a team and how we did deal with it but our goal was to make the playoffs and once you get there, you wanna win some games and go deep. You don’t envision being swept in the first round so, I think we learned what it takes to win, the consistency, the work ethic, the sacrifice. When we sit here in the summer and look back I hope everyone can realize how hard it is to get there and what you have to do to win at that level. Obviously we want to get back to that stage every year. We don’t want once every couple year kind of thing; I think we have a group that can do it every year.”
