Seems like Anders Lindback and the Tampa Bay Lightning are getting more comfortable with him in net, as he made thirty-six saves leading to a Bolts victory and season sweep of the Philadelphia Flyers.
From the start, Lindback exuded the calm focus that was portrayed in his relief start on Tuesday as he didn’t let a goal passed him until there were only a few minutes left in the second period. He had previously stopped 55 shots before that goal and the team helped out as well with Gudas making a big save in the net as there was a scrum. The only other goal scored was technically an own goal off the stick of Ondrej Palat and well it seemed like that was the only bit of luck the Flyers were going to get.
“Obviously, I thanked him [Gudas] as much as I thanked Ondrej Palat for a nice goal,” Lindback said. “ Every shot I feel a little more and more comfortable.”
Not only did Lindback play well, the team in front played extremely well too, aside from the own goal. Tyler Johnson broke Steven Stamkos’ rookie record for goals with a pass from the former record holder himself—Stamkos, who also had a goal too.
“It seemed like Gudas saved the goal with his beard,” Johnson said with a smile.
Coach Jon Cooper is liking how his squad is playing right now with another game less than 24 hours against a Columbus Blue Jackets team that has played the Bolts really tough and have been a tough game for most of the league right now.
“Well naturally you like to have everything in your control, but we have Columbus in less than 24 hours and that’s our focus.” Cooper said. “ More importantly as a staff, we are looking at how we are playing. It started in the backend with Lindy and the guys took care of the rest. Lindy has fallen victim again tonight but that didn’t rattle him, he has learned to turn the page and understand ‘I have to make the next save’ and he’s learned to do that.”
It seems the level of compete that wasn’t there for the games against Calgary and Dallas has returned and if the Bolts keep this up, then they will not only get home ice advantage but also be a dangerous, hot team in the playoffs prepped for a deep run.
