Lightning's Brayden Point, selected 79th overall.

The Tampa Bay Lightning traded out of the 5th round of the NHL Draft and into the 4th by trading two 5th round picks to the New York Rangers. In return the Lightning selected Brayden Point from the WHL. Point had 36 goals in his last season in the WHL and is considered a very good scoring forward. It’s a bit of a change of pace as GM Steve Yzerman had previously selected three defensemen before picking point. However, it should be noted that Director of Scouting Al Murray must have really wanted Point, as the Lightning did have to make a move to trade up into the fourth rounder. Point was initially expected to go in the late third round by most mock drafts.
