Tampa Bay Lightning Carolina Hurricanes First Intermission
The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Carolina Hurricanes are tied at a goal apiece at the first intermission. Jiri Tlusty scored his 5th goal at the 4:35 mark for the Hurricanes and Victor Hedman answered with his seventh goal of the season at the 16:12 mark. The Lightning have been the aggressors thus far leading the Hurricanes in shots on goal 18-9. The Lightning is 0 for 2 in power play opportunities and their penalty kill unit successfully stopped the Hurricanes in their only opportunity in the first period.
It was the first goal Ben Bishop has allowed to the Hurricanes in the last 2+ meetings. The prior two meetings he had stopped all 76 shots he faced. Earlier this season (November 1, 2013) Bishop blanked the Hurricanes on 31 shots in a 3-0 Lightning victory and last season (April 4, 2013) he stopped all 45 shots he faced in a Lightning 5-0 victory.

The Lightning went on the power play at the 5:06 mark when Radek Dvorak was sent to the penalty box for hooking but the and again at the 11:01 mark when Tuomo Ruutu was sent off the ice for two minutes for holding. The Lightning were unable to take advantage of the extra skater either time.
The Lightning Penalty Kill unit went on the ice at the 13:29 when Radko Gudas was sent off for 2-minutes for interference. For the 21st time in their last 22 chances against the Hurricanes power play the Lightning kept them off the board.
