With a 2-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets the Tampa Bay Lightning finished the first half of the 48-game season. The Lightning are 10-13-1 with 21-points. At the rate that the New York Rangers (26-points) and the New Jersey Devils (27-points) are playing, it is conceivable that 55-points will be needed to make the playoffs. Using simple math the Lightning need to go 17-7-0 (35-points) to get to the 55-point marker and have a chance to make the playoffs.
17-7-0 seems very unrealistic at this point in the season, but remember the Lightning did start the season 6-1-0 and scored 5-goals a game.
“We are in the job of making miracles happen,” Lightning head coach Guy Boucher said Thursday night to the media.
The Lightning are not at miracle time yet but they could use some prayers on defense and in between the pipes.
