Ryan Disputes Jets Were Too Conservative

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — A testy Rex Ryan disputes the notion by many fans and media that the New York Jets played too conservatively in an overtime loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Ryan insists Monday that the Jets “go down to win” and those who think the team was playing “scared” in a 29-26 defeat are “ridiculous.” New York (3-4) had a chance to win it in overtime, but Mark Sanchez fumbled and the Patriots (4-3) recovered to seal the win and take sole possession of first place in the AFC East.

There were a handful of plays Ryan is being criticized for, including a quick slant to Chaz Schilens on third-and-2 from the Patriots 3 in the third quarter that fell incomplete and the Jets settled for a field goal.
