The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had their final padded practice of training camp, so from here on-out, the focus is on preparing for the Miami Dolphins and the two remaining preseason opponents.
Here are some highlights:
Early on, during 7-on-7s, quarterback Josh McCown chucked a beautiful 50-plus yard through to wide receiver Mike Evans for an effortless catch.
McCown then connected with wide receiver Vincent Jackson for a 20-yard touchdown strike.
Backup quarterback Mike Glennon had a rough go at it during 7-on-7s, getting picked off by cornerback Deveron Carr on a short pass intended for tight end Tim Wright. Glennon was picked off again on the very next play by linebacker Dane Fletcher.
During 11-on-11s, in the red zone, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins made a backwards diving catch in the corner of the end zone for what looked to be a score, but the play was called back.
Glennon struggled in the red zone during 11-on-11s and at times, appeared to have difficulty finding his receivers. He was picked off by cornerback Anthony Gaitor in the corner of the end zone on a pass intended for Robert Herron.
At one point, Glennon floated a pass into the end zone, and to everyone’s astonishment, wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins caught it with one arm to score, drawing the largest cheers of the day.
Running back Charles Sims left practice with what Coach Smith described as a minor ankle injury.
Safety Keith Tandy had to be helped off the field towards the very end of practice due to cramps.
Missing from practice today — cornerback Mike Jenkins (upper leg), cornerback Keith Lewis (ankle) cornerback Rashaan Melvin (ankle), defensive end Da’Quan Bowers (groin) and Steven Means (groin).
Cornerback Alterraun Verner (hamstring) was limited.
