Report: 49ers Trade Alex Smith To Chiefs

NFL insider Jay Glazer is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a deal that would send QB Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Multiple reports confirm that the 49ers will receive the Chiefs’ second round pick (34th overall) in April’s NFL draft, as well as a conditional mid-round pick in 2014.

Smith was benched in favor of Colin Kaepernick last season and The 49ers were expected to trade the former no. 1 overall pick this offseason.

Andy Reid is in his first season as the Chiefs head coach after being fired from the Philadelphia Eagles. Reid is famous for his quarterback-friendly system that helped players like Mike Vick flourish as a passer.

If the trade goes down on March 12, the Chiefs are expected to select Texas A&M OT Luke Joeckel in the 2013 NFL Draft to protect Smith’s blindside.
