The Green Bay Packers are embarking upon their 10th draft under the direction of general manager Ted Thompson with a few more glaring needs than normal.
Yet, in the tried-and-true formula generally adhered to by the Packers, they could be in position to strike it rich in what some personnel people have called one of the deepest drafts in years.
“I told the head coach, there will be a team that comes out of this thing with five starters in the next three years,” an executive in personnel said. “I’d pay attention to this one in Green Bay with his simple philosophy of sticking to the board and the best player.
According to the executive, the Packers’ top four draft needs are free safety, pass rusher, receiver, and tight end.
