As the first openly gay player to enter the NFL Draft, Michael Sam is reiterating that he wants to focus on football. Plain and simple.
According to sports business report Mark J. Burns, Sam has respectfully declined offers from ESPN and the NFL Network to follow him during the first.
His decision comes at no surprise since he has said from the beginning of all the hoopla surrounding his sexuality that he doesn’t want to be distracted during this process. He has said over and over that he doesn’t want teams to be distracted either.
Sports Illustrated points out that it is pretty unlikely for Sam to be drafted during the first 2 rounds so by Day 3 of the draft, Sam’s name will be the subject of many storylines.
