The Bucs have a new general manager and it’s Arizona Cardinals’ VP of player personnel, Jason Licht. I joined Tuck and O’Neill on Sports Talk 1080 this afternoon to talk about Licht, what he brings to the Buccaneers and if the Bucs made the right hire with him.
We talked about the hiring process and Licht’s background, including four Super Bowls, two stints with New England under Bill Belichick and working with Andy Reid in Philadelphia, signifying a strong pedigree.
It was also in Philly that Licht worked alongside Scott Cohen, who is now the Bucs senior personnel advisor and was brought in to assist former GM Mark Dominik last year. In my opinion, Cohen played a big role in bringing Licht on board and he can serve as the liaison between the new GM and the front office that worked under Dominik.
Aside from Licht’s hiring, we talked about team philosophy under Lovie Smith and if his vision for the team includes Mike Glennon as the starting quarterback or if the Bucs will go after a new quarterback in this draft class. I talked about Fresno State quarterback, Derek Carr, who has a close family relationship with new offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford. Might he be in the team’s future?
We went back to this past season and talked about everything that went wrong, and if the Glazer family made the right call in firing Greg Schiano and Mark Dominik.
We also talked about the upcoming Super Bowl matchup between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks and who I see taking it all.
