After a brief two-hour snooze session following coverage of last night’s Bucs-Ravens preseason opener, I joined Eric Lopez on Sports Talk 1040 and 1080 to recap all the action, including players who stood out.
Bucs fans may be cringing at the score, but there were some positives from the first teamers, and even some reserves who stepped up.
Lavonte David’s sack for a 10-yard loss and Danny Gorrer’s interception of Joe Flacco were big highlights of the game, as was Derek Dimke going three-for-three on field goals, although his horse collar penalty should not have happened.
Mike Glennon performed fairly well in his season debut, particularly the way he stood in the face of heavy pressure from the Ravens’ pass rush on that 61-yard completion to tight end Tom Crabtree.
Kevin Ogletree was another highlight, and in my opinion, he’s established himself as the front-runner for that third receiver position.
We also talked about the Bucs’ big roster move yesterday, when they parted ways with Myron Lewis just before game time.
I told Eric, after Gorrer’s interception last night, I kept thinking to myself, ‘What if they had kept Lewis around and it came at the expense of Gorrer, a guy who’s been a victim of roster cuts before?’
Last but not least, we talked about the bizarre series of events surrounding Eric Wright’s signing with the 49ers.
