Expectations High Headed into Buccaneers Training Camp

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers begin training camp in ten days with the rookies reporting this Wednesday. I sat in for Steve Kyler with Joey Qatato and Mike Corcoran on 1040’s The Game on Sunday and talked about expectations heading into camp.

In segment one, find out which rookies I expect to make an impact right away and what the running back situation looks like behind Doug Martin.

There’s rookie running back, Mike James, but people shouldn’t forget about second-year speedster Michael Smith or Brian Leonard, a third-round back who was Greg Schiano’s guy at Rutgers before Ray Rice emerged as a star.

I talk about my expectations for third-round draft pick Mike Glennon based on observations from rookie camp and minicamp.

I also talk about the new additions on defense and the difference guys like free agent safety Dashon Goldson, aka “The Hawk,” have made.

Segment one:

In segment two, the guys and I branched out to talk about the rest of the league, including Geno Smith’s decision not to attend Jets Camp West.

There’s an interesting dynamic brewing between Smith and Mark Sanchez. Find out which NFL teams could be the biggest surprises of the 2013 season.

Segment two:

Please note: Mike James is not Edgerrin James’ brother. I believe Joey was thinking of another Canes’ running back, Javarris James, who is Edgerrin James’ cousin. There may be some relation, as the two reportedly share a cousin in Auburndale High School running back Derwin James, a Florida State recruit. Wanted to point that out to avoid any confusion.
