Evaluating the Bucs’ Free Agent Splash and Revis’ Departure

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a very active first 24 hours of free agency, signing some big names including defensive Michael Johnson and cornerback Alterraun Verner, along with quarterback in Josh McCown.

On Wednesday afternoon, I joined Tuck and O’Neill on Sports Talk 1080 in Orlando to give my thoughts on the new free agent acquisitions along with the departure of Darrelle Revis.

When asked, head coach Lovie Smith told the media today that McCown would be his starting quarterback. Was that move a slap in the face to Mike Glennon, who started last year? We talked about the dynamic that will exist between the two and why I think Glennon will handle this move like a professional.

We then talked about Darrelle Revis. Was releasing him the right move? How do the fans feel after one year and all that hype, just for him to leave?

We talked about Michael Johnson, how I graded that signing and what his role will be with the team, helping fortifying a lackluster pass rush that hasn’t lived up its potential.

The moves made in the last 24 hours clearly show where the Bucs are from a philosophical standpoint, illustrating what GM Jason Licht said about “not being pigeon-holed in the draft.” Find out what the Bucs need now going forward.

Last but not least, we talked about who’s next in line to sign with the team and who the Bucs could eye at No. 7 in the draft. You can listen to it all here:
