When Aaron Rodgers went down with a shoulder injury on Monday night, the initial reaction was “OH GOD PLEASE NO.” That was quickly followed by Packers fans realizing that Seneca Wallace would be playing quarterback and then finally by everyone debating whether Green Bay should sign Matt Flynn or Brett Favre.
No that’s not a joke. The Ole’ Gunslinger’s name was everywhere last night with at least one specific report from Howard Balzer that the Packers had “reached out” to Favre surfacing.
We detailed the pros and cons of trying to grab Flynn right here; the Packers would have either claim their former backup of waivers (not to mention hope he fell to them) or let him clear waivers before they could sign him.
Favre’s a different story. However, Gabe Neitzel of ESPN Wisconsin reports that he spoke with Bus Cook, Favre’s agent, and Cook “assured” him that No. 4 “is retired.”
