Tampa Bay Buccaneers Training Camp: Day 2 Notebook

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had their second day of training camp practice on Saturday and in stark contrast to Friday, which didn’t even last an hour due to weather delays, there wasn’t cloud in sight or a single drop of rain.

Cornerbacks Johnthan Banks and Mike Jenkins were each getting a look with the first-team defense opposite Alterraun Verner.

At times, Banks lined up opposite Vincent Jackson, and in one-on-ones, he showed really nice coverage skills, even when Jackson tried to put a double move on him. But he also let one get by during 7-on-7s and appeared frustrated with himself.

Leonard Johnson was getting first-team reps at nickel back, with Danny Gorrer getting work with the 2s. Chris Owusu was getting a look with the first-team offense in the slot.

Safeties Dashon Goldson and Mark Barron, who were held out of minicamp due to respective foot and hamstring injuries, both returned to action. While Goldson was limited, Barron was full-go, picking off Josh McCown on a pass intended for Owusu during 11-on-11s.

McCown was also picked off by linebacker Brandon Magee on that same series.

McCown rebounded with a deep sideline pass to Jackson over Verner for a touchdown. McCown also showed great mobility when he rolled out and hit wide receiver Tommy Streeter on the run.

During 7-on-7s, Mike Glennon air-mailed a beautiful 50-yard deep ball to Streeter, who was working against Rashaan Melvin and Mycal Swaim. It came on the end of a series where Glennon missed Owusu twice on some intermediate throws in traffic and then grossly overthrew the ball to the sideline.

A sixth-round draft pick by the Ravens out of Miami back in 2012, Streeter also had a big catch against Banks on a deep corner route in 1-on-1s.

During 1-on-1s, safety Bradley McDouglad had an interception on a pass intended for tight end Tim Wright.

During 1-on-1s working against strong side linebacker Jonathan Casillas, Jeff Demps made a nice over-the-shoulder catch for a touchdown.

Rookie tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who mostly got second-team reps behind veteran Brandon Myers, snagged a touchdown catch on a corner route against safety Kelcie McCray.

Towards the very end of practice, defensive end Michael Johnson batted down a quick screen from McCown.

Defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was lining up on the inside with the second team defense during nickel situations.
