Bucs Rule Out Verner, Jenkins and Sims for Dolphins Preseason Game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially ruled out cornerbacks Alterraun Verner and Mike Jenkins and running back Charles Sims for Saturday’s preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.

Verner and Jenkins have both missed significant time in camp with hamstring and upper leg injuries respectively.

Sims injured his ankle during Tuesday’s practice.

“Unfortunate with his ankle injury, but that happens,” Smith said of Sims. “You know, you saw him in the cast with the walking boot outside. He won’t play in the immediate future for sure.”

Last week against Jacksonville, Sims worked with the second-team offense, finishing second on the team in both rushing and receiving with 45 all-purpose yards.

On a positive note, free safety Dashon Goldson will play this weekend, seeing his first action of the preseason. Goldson underwent foot surgery this offseason.

Also a positive — Verner returned to action this week and participated in practice on a limited basis.

“Would I like to? I’d love to, but no we wont be getting him any reps this week,” said head coach Lovie Smith. “He’s on schedule hopefully for next week.”

No timetable was given for Jenkins, who, like Verner, is listed as a starter on the team’s current depth chart.
