Just before 7:00 this morning, veterans began strolling into One Buc Place, joining rookies who have been at the facility already for a week, and officially kicking off the start of training camp for 2013.
Today won’t include any actual practicing. Players will undergo physical examinations, and around 9:30, they will participate in the team’s mandatory conditioning test.
For the second-consecutive year, players will be asked to run 16 110-yard sprints, more than the entire length of a football field, with 45 seconds of rest in between each sprint.
Required times for players vary, and if a player cannot meet the mandated time, he will not be permitted to practice with the team.
Today’s events also include team meetings, interviews with the media, and press conferences. The team won’t begin practicing until tomorrow, and in accordance to the CBA, won’t be eligible to put on pads until after two on-field practices.
Here are some more rules for camp:
Teams are allowed to conduct two-a-day practices but the new CBA specifies that only one padded practice can take place in a day.
Players cannot be on the field longer than four hours per day and during padded practices, they cannot be on the field longer than three hours during that session.
A three-hour break is required in between practice sessions to allow sufficient time to eat, rehydrate, and recoup.
The Bucs are making 10 training camp practices open to the public this year.
Camp will take place at One Buc Place, with the exception of the team’s annual night practice, which will be on Saturday, July 27 at Raymond James Stadium.
