Brandin Cooks Picked by New Orleans

With the 20th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints selected Oregon State wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

How Sports Talk Florida sees the pick…

The Low-Down…

Cooks clocked a 4.33 40 time at the NFL Scouting Combine, finishing as a top performer in that event as well as the 20 and 60-yard shuttles.

In 2013, he had 1,730 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns, setting a single-season Pac-12 record.

He was the recipient of the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the nation’s top receiver. He was also named a first-team All-American and first-team All-Pack-12.

In the past two seasons, he had 195 receptions for 2,881 yards, averaging 15.4 yards per catch, and 21 touchdowns.

Bottom Line…

At 5-foot-10, 181 pounds, his size is considered merely adequate at the next level. Some would even consider him undersized, but he is capable of lining up both inside and outside, with enough speed and acceleration to stretch opposing defenses.
