Blachard, a Lake Zurich native who starred at Wisconsin-Whitewater, received an injury settlement from the Bears after suffering a broken left (non-throwing) hand in the third preseason game.
Blanchard underwent surgery and was given full medical clearance Monday, a source familiar with the situation told the Tribune.
The Bears were believed to have interest in bringing Blanchard back but because he was given an injury settlement, which spanned the first five weeks of the regular season, NFL rules prevent him from re-signing with them until after Week 10. Coach Marc Trestman was complimentary of Blanchard during their time together.
