A low tackle from Nick Mangold set off a scrum between New York Jets and New England Patriots players, and ended with fellow offensive linemen Willie Colon and D’Brickashaw Ferguson getting ejected in the closing minute of the Jets’ 13-10 loss.
Replays of the tackle show Mangold diving after cornerback Aqib Talib after he grabbed the third interception by the Patriots with 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Talib was evading tackles when Mangold appeared to go for the back of Talib’s knees as he ran into the Patriots’ sideline.
The NFL will review the three incidents, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported.
“I thought it was a good tackle,” Mangold said.
Apparently Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn’t agree. He had a few words for Mangold on the rain-slicked sideline, but the center couldn’t exactly make them out in the chaos.
