Mike Williams of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cannot catch a break. Just after he was stabbed by his brother, he is now making headlines for a lawsuit filed by his insurance company.
Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports that United Property & Casualty Insurance Co. is seeking $54,453 for a kitchen fire at Williams’ house last year. Williams is accused of “negligently and carelessly leaving a pan on the stove” and “failing to monitor” it before a fire started, requiring emergency responders to come to the scene.
According to Pro Football Talk, Williams’ lawyer told the Times that she had not seen the lawsuit and she would not make any comment about it.
Williams was approved to enter a pretrial intervention program on the criminal charges last month and that should settle the legal side of the issue. It could hopefully benefit him and stop him from appearing in headlines while the insurance suit progresses forward.
This lawsuit just adds another tick mark when evaluating his status with the Bucs.
