Derek Carr has learned a lot over the years from his brother, David.
David Carr flopped as the No. 1 overall pick by the Texans in 2002. But, Derek took from the experience and learned to read NFL defenses at 12 years old, becoming more emotionally grounded by watching the adversity David faced.
Carr measured in at 6′ 2″, 214, with 9½-inch hands. He was quite the star at the Senior Bowl and he has overcome some adversity himself. His son, Dallas, was born with an intestinal disorder last summer and has needed three surgeries. He plans to use these hardships as a motivating factor in the pros.
Carr has a history with Bucs’ offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford, who coached David at Fresno State. Tedford has worked with Derek since he was just 5 years old.
“I would absolutely love to be a Buccaneer,” Carr said, “because I love Tedford, and I’d love that city and that organization more than anybody.”
