NFL Rookie Report: Florida Teams
NFL rookies have had a chance to settle into their new homes and learn about their new teams. Even though they have yet to play a down in the pros, we can still evaluate what they have done so far.
Here’s a look at first-round Florida rookies and the progress they have made during the offseason.
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley has said before that Bortles will not start in 2014. According to Pro Football Talk, they plan to use QB Chad Henne for the year. But, don’t count Bortles out completely. He has worked as a backup during team OTAs and Bradley has been on the fence about his role, saying that he will be used “somewhere down the line.”
It’s pretty obvious that if Bortles continues to improve and shows that he’s capable of leading the team, he will become the face of the Jaguars some day.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans
Evans has suffered a minor hamstring injury during OTAs and now during minicamp, he is pretty limited to what he can do. But, coach Lovie Smith is staying positive.
If Evans can catch up fast, he will be a valuable asset to the offensive unit in Tampa Bay.
Miami Dolphins RT Ja’Wuan James
According to Bleacher Report, he’s on his way to securing the starting role and even though it’s a little difficult to succeed right away against pass-rushers in the league, he has a quickness about him that is pretty dangerous.
