NFL rookies have had a chance to settle into their new homes and learn about their new teams. Even though they have yet to play a down in the pros, we can still evaluate what they have done so far.

Here’s a look at first-round Florida rookies and the progress they have made during the offseason.

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles

Blake Bortles Jaguars
When Bortles was selected as the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, the Jaguars became the talk of the town. Not only is Bortles born and raised only a few hours from Jacksonville, but he played his college career nearby, too.

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley has said before that Bortles will not start in 2014. According to Pro Football Talk, they plan to use QB Chad Henne for the year. But, don’t count Bortles out completely. He has worked as a backup during team OTAs and Bradley has been on the fence about his role, saying that he will be used “somewhere down the line.”

It’s pretty obvious that if Bortles continues to improve and shows that he’s capable of leading the team, he will become the face of the Jaguars some day.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans

Mike Evans
Evans was picked up by the Bucs as the No. 7 overall pick and he will most definitely make a direct impact on the team, right away. As a strong receiver with extreme athleticism, he is a serious threat to d-backs.

Evans has suffered a minor hamstring injury during OTAs and now during minicamp, he is pretty limited to what he can do. But, coach Lovie Smith is staying positive.

If Evans can catch up fast, he will be a valuable asset to the offensive unit in Tampa Bay.

Miami Dolphins RT Ja’Wuan James

Ja'Wuan James
James filled a gaping hole in the offensive line for the Dolphins and he will definitely start this year. He was selected No. 19 overall and after starting around 50 games at Tennessee, he looks to improve the Dolphins’ o-line.

According to Bleacher Report, he’s on his way to securing the starting role and even though it’s a little difficult to succeed right away against pass-rushers in the league, he has a quickness about him that is pretty dangerous.
