NFL Draft Update: Combine Flops

Not all players at the NFL Combine have impressed, awed, or even thrilled pro scouts. Here are some players who were expected to perform at a high level but flopped instead.
Alabama OT Cyrus Kouandjio
There were questions swirling before Kouandjio arrived in Indianaoplis because of his up and down performance from this past season. But then he reportedly failed a few teams’ medical evaluations and also looked sluggish in running and positional drills.
Tennessee OT Antonio Richardson
With conversation about his bad knees, it’s not shocking that Richardson looked heavy and lethargic on the Lucas Oil Field and turned in a slow 40 time.
His strength (36 reps) and length (6-foot-6, and 35-inch arms) give him a chance, but he’s probably a right tackle in the pros and maybe not a very athletic one.
Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater
After promising to run the 40, Bridgewater then backed out a day later. That may not affect him in the long run, but opting not to run or throw at the combine seems to disagree with his claims of being a “competitor”. Running would’ve helped to separate himself in the race to be the first QB drafted.
Baylor RB Lache Seastrunk
Seastrunk clocked an official 4.51 in the 40 which might make evaluators question whether his speed will translate effectively to the NFL. One team said he appeared disinterested in interviews.
He’s a decent athlete, which is outlined by his vertical and broad jump times, but Seastrunk has a lot to prove.
Florida State RB James Wilder
As the son of the former Buccaneers running back, he had a pretty uneventful weekend. He had trouble with the 40, clocking a time of 4.86 seconds, and the only two lower among his group were fullbacks.
Aside from that he had some sluggish performances in the running back drills.
Arizona RB Ka’Deem Carey
There have been some off-field concerns about Carey over the past year and his combine performance will leave him needing a strong pro day.
Teams seem pretty concerned about his heavy workload (741 touches the past two seasons) in college.
San Diego State RB Adam Muema
Muema could be the most bizarre story of the combine for religious reasons, saying that God told him to leave the event.
Security was called to his room after he was not responding to people calling his name. He was in a “meditative state” on his bed before hotel security got involved, one source said.
Just like that, Muema probably just prevented himself from being drafted.
