Hardball Talk reports that the New York Mets demoted catcher Travis d’Arnaud to Triple-A Las Vegas right after last night’s game. In a corresponding move, the Mets called up Taylor Teagarden.
Travis d’Arnaud was hitting .180/.271/.273 for the Mets this season, but how much his recent concussion has to do with his struggles is unclear as he wasn’t doing particularly well before his injury either.
d’Arnaud was acquired from the Blue Jays in the R.A. Dickey deal and made his big league debut last August.
Of course, he is still technically a rookie, catchers tend to bloom as hitters later than other players and Las Vegas is a notoriously hitter-friendly environment. So maybe he’ll be feeling better about life soon.
