The Orlando Magic hold the number four pick in the upcoming NBA draft, and point guard is where they need to focus their attention. In the first pre-view we discussed Oklahoma States Marcus Smart. Dante Exum is not as known but from all accounts has more of an upside and promise. The big question is, how great was his competition during international play and how will his game transition to the NBA? Here is a quick look at Exum:
Born: July 13, 1995 (age 18)
Size for his position, 6’6″ with a 6’9″ wingspan
Defensive potential. Pairing with Victor Oladipo and you would have one heck of a defensive back-court.
Low post scoring. Giving him the ability to post smaller guards, creating match-up problems.
Can rebound well on both ends.
Extremely quick first step, attacking the rim and creating offense.
Very good in pick and roll.
Moves GREAT off the ball, scoring without having the ball in his hands.
Unselfish and sees the floor well in the open court.
Makes the extra pass.
Very poor outside shooter. (17% last season off the dribble)
Bad shot selection.
Poor free-throw shooter (60.9% last season)
Has a tendency to miss open teammates.
Can be out of control at times.
Dribbles too much, causing turnovers.
Very flat jumper giving the ball no chance to go in.
