This past month has been eventful for the young guard. He started off by helping the Magic walk away with a win against the Thunder. The Magic were down by two points with just 2.9 seconds left in the game when he grabbed a rebound sprinted to the other side of the court, passed it to Maurice Harkless who then passed it to Tobias Harris for the game winning dunk. Oladipo contributed 14 points, three assists, five rebounds and two steals in a 103-102 victory over the Thunder.
Two days after that win Oladipo helped the Magic beat the Pacers 93-92. Particularly he did a great job in the second half as he scored 13 of his 23 points in the final quarter. He came out and played with a lot of energy and confidence, which gave the rest of the team momentum.
Those back-to-back wins against the best teams in the league helped the young 21-year-old gain confidence before heading out to the 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend. Oladipo participated in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge and scored 13 points, four assists and one rebound in 20 minutes. Oladipo teamed up with Philadelphia’s Michael Carter-Williams for the Taco Bell Skills Challenge. They finished 0.1 seconds shy of first place.
Things did not change when he returned from All-Star Weekend, the rookie kept playing at a high level. Oladipo was a rebound away from his second triple-double of the season when he played the New York Knicks on February 26. That night, Oladipo posted 30 points, 14 assists, nine rebounds and two steals.
A few nights later, Oladipo recorded his sixth double-double against the 76ers with 17 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block.
This is not the first time Oladipo receives this honor. He was named NBA’s Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for the month of December. During that time he recorded his first career triple-double with 26 points, 10 boards and 10 assists against the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 3. In the 15 games he played in December, he averaged 12.7 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and 3.8 assists per game in 32.1 minutes per game.
