Tonight will be a very special home opener for the Orlando Magic. Former All-Star Tracy McGrady will be honored tonight before tip-off. McGrady a Florida naitive played for the Magic from 2000-2004, while winning the NBA Most Improved Player in 2001 and leading the league in scoring in 2003-2004.
As for the game, Orlando will play a New Orleans team they’ve seen twice already since October 9th. The Magic dropped both of those games, losing the most recent 10182 at home. Luckily for them it was only pre-season.
Match-up to watch for:
Jrue Holiday (NO) vs. Jameer Nelson (ORL)
Both of these point guards have the ability to score the basketball while still involving the guys around them. If the Magic want to win this game they are going to need Nelson to score over 20 points and dish out 10 plus assists. On the other hand Holiday is so lethal in the pick and roll with big man Anthony Davis, look for that to be used a lot tonight. The beauty of having a stretch four like Ryan Anderson allows your guard and big to run a high pick and roll with floor spacing. The Magic will have to defend both, something thats given them trouble in the past.
Ryan Anderson (NO)
Anderson, a former member of the Magic will play a key role for the Pelicans this season. Tonight look for him to run with the second unit and light it up in an arena he is famaliar with.
Nikola Vucevic (ORL)
If the Magic want to win this game they will need a solid performance out of center Nik Vucevic. Vucevic will have to keep Anthony Davis off the boards not allowing the Pelicans to get second chance points. He will need to score the ball on the low block and try to get Davis in early foul trouble.
New Orleans Pelicans 107
