Magic Rides Defense in Win Over Detroit

Kyle O'QuinnThe Orlando Magic (2-4) beat the Detroit Pistons (2-4) 87-86 Sunday night at the Amway Center.

After trailing 27-19 in the first quarter, the Magic’s stepped up in the second and third quarter and held Detroit to a combined 27 points. The Magic forced 26 turnovers, which resulted in 33 points. Nine of the 26 turnovers came from Pistons’ guard Peyton Siva. The young guard shot 3-of -10 from the field and 1-of-3 from deep in 47 minutes.

For most of the night the Magic managed to keep the Pistons’ shooting percentage under 40. The strong defensive performance gave the Magic chance to win the game.

E’Twaun Moore led the Magic with 14 points in 30 minutes. Tobias Harris followed Moore with 13 points. Harris was 3-for-3 from downtown before exiting the game with a sore left ankle. After the game Harris said they will take things day by day and see how his ankle feels.

Maurice Harkless was very aggressive Sunday night. The young forward started off by picking up three fouls in the first three minutes of the game, but finished with 11 points and four steals.

Head coach Jacque Vaughn gave Jameer Nelson and Nik Vucevic the night off.  Kyle O’Quinn made the start at center and logged in a team high of 40 minutes. Rookie Victor Oladipo who started at the point guard position finished the night with eight points, seven assists, three steals and five turnovers.
