Breaking News: Magic’s Hedo Turkoglu Waived

Magic_Hedo_Turkoglu_2013The Orlando Magic have officially waived forward Hedo Turkoglu, General Manager Rob Hennigan announced.

Turkoglu and the Magic have been working on a buyout deal since the beginning of the season. Since a deal was not reached, the Magic will pay Turkoglu the guaranteed $6 million out of his $12 million salary.

The 34-year-old forward was listed on the Magic’s roster but has been on the inactive list all season. He has not participated in any practices or attended any of the games.

In the 2012-13 season, he appeared in 11 games and averaged a career low of 2.9 points per game. In the first game of the 2012-13 season, Turkoglu broke his left hand and required surgery. He returned in late December but did not get a lot of playing time.

In February 2013 it was announced that Turkoglu had violated the NBA’s substance policy and he was suspended for 20 games. He did not play with the team after  his suspension.

In his 13 year career, Turkoglu appeared 897 games with the Kings, Spurs, Magic and Suns while averaging 11.9 points per game. He has also appeared in 93 playoff games and averaged 11.1 points per game.
