Derrick Rose tears his ACL and is done for the season. And down go the hopes for the team with the best record in the NBA.
Iman Shumpart tears his ACL. And that isn’t among the top couple of Knicks storylines. Jeremy Lin still isn’t back, and now Amar’e Stoudemire might be done. He reportedly punched a fire extinguisher last night and injured his hand so badly that he’ll miss game 3 and his season may be over.
The Orlando Magic prepared the visitors of Indiana to avoid an Amar’e incident at Amway Center.
Rajon Rondo bumped a referee. At least he didn’t throw a ball at him this time, right? Oh, and the Celtics still don’t have Ray Allen. Will it really be the Hawks that bring an end to the Boston 3-Party? Or the Rose-less Bulls?
The ball has bounced right for the Thunder, on Kevin Durant’s game-winner in Game 1 and on the shot missed by Dirk Nowitzki in Game 2. 4 points and 2 games separate the two teams. Either the champs or the favorite is going out in the first round.
The Clippers overcame a 27 point deficit and ended Game 1 on a 28-3 run to beat Memphis on the road. Don’t assume the Grizzlies are finished though. Portland rallied from down 23 last year in Game 4 against the Mavericks, and went on to lose games 4 and 5. Boston outscored New Jersey 41-16 in the 4th quarter of the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals after being down 21 going to the final period. The Nets won 3 straight after on their way to the Finals.
And if that wasn’t enough, Caron Butler is out now with a broken hand. Tough break, literally, for the Clips.
The Magic are playing without Dwight Howard. And they won Game 1 at Indiana.
Could the East be any less exciting? Miami is mauling New York, who is short-handed. The Bulls are without Rose. The Magic are without Dwight. The Celtics are without Allen, and now Rondo for a game. The Hawks are without Al Horford. Who is taking down Miami? Nobody east of the Mississippi.
We’ve played 11 games so far, and two have been well played, back and forth, down to the wire games. Thanks Dallas and OKC.
I love the NBA, and will keep watching obviously, but this hasn’t been the best of weeks for the league.
