NBA News: Drake Draws $25K Tampering Fine
Whether you know him as the teen actor on “Degrassi” or the present day rapper, Drake appears to be in some hot water with the NBA. The league has fined the Toronto Raptors $25,000 after Drake, who is an official team ambassador, pumped up a Toronto crowd to cheer on Kevin Durant as he was on hand for the Drake Concert.
Here’s exactly what Drake said that drew a tampering charge from the NBA:
“Before we leave, I just want to show one of my brothers something. You know, my brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us. I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen.”
Now I’m not sure I would exactly call that “tampering,” but it’s the NBA, and they can do as they please.
But the latest twist in this Drake saga has some fans just scratching their heads…The Globe and Mail in Toronto, is reporting that the fine would have simply gone away, if the Raptors would have severed ties with Drake.
So far the Raptors have declined to comment on the tampering fine, but you can bet it has something to do with the team’s future plans for Drake. As it stands, Drake is slated to play an integral role in helping rebrand the team and its clothing line for the team’s 20th anniversary this upcoming season. Drake is also scheduled to be front and center when it comes to promoting the 2016 NBA All-Star game in Toronto.
If you are the Toronto Raptors now, you have to ask yourself if it is worth keeping Drake, despite the potential for more run-ins with the NBA.
