The NBA announced Thursday that they will be putting their Twitter handle right under the “official game ball” on the ball. This makes the league the first to put social media literally into player’s hands.
“We have a young, tech-savvy fan base,” Melissa Rosenthal Brenner, the league’s senior vice president for digital media, said. “This acknowledges our commitment to being part of the conversation.”
These balls will put in play for the preseason and be available to buy a few months later, probably as the regular season begins.
Brenner mentioned that between Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tencent and Sina, the league has a gross total of more than 660 million fans.
