Magic’s Harkless, O’Quinn have solid performances in Day 1 of Summer League

Orlando’s Maurice Harkless and Kyle O’Quinn made solid performances during the Magic’s first Summer League game.

O’Quinn recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. While Harkless grabbed eight rebounds and contributed 15 points to the Magic’s 95-88 victory over the Boston Celtics.

Last season, Harkless started the season averaging 4.8 point per game. By the time the season was over Harkless was averaging 13.1 points per game. The young 20-year-old has grown a lot as a player in the past six months. Harkless has not only figuartively grown but he has also physically become bigger.

Harkless entered the NBA at the age of 19 weighing 205 pounds. During the off season he made it a goal to put on some muscle and he has done just that. He current weighs 218 pounds and has gone as far as 222 pounds. The Magic’s young forward says that extra muscle has helped him defend better.

Teammate Andrew Nicholson stuggled a bit as he made one of nine field goals and ended up with seven points in almost 24 minutes.

On the other hand, Romero Osby chipped in 18 points off the bench.  Osby was the Magic’s 51st pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Since arriving in Orlando Osby has shown he wants to work hard and become a better player.

The Magic will face the Oklahoma City Thunder at 11:00 a.m. in the second day of the 2013 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League.
