January was a good month for the Brooklyn Nets and the Memphis Grizzlies. As a reward for having a successful month, the teams’ head coaches Jason Kidd and Dave Joerger were recognized by being named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month Monday afternoon.
Kidd led the Nets to a 10-3 record, while Joerger led the Grizzlies to a league best record 12-3 for the month of January.
The Nets struggled from October thru December but in January they turned things around. Before January they allowed their opponents to score 102.3 points per game. In January things changed, they held opponents to 95.3 points per game. Only four of 13 opponents reached the 100 point mark, two of them included wins over the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat.
In the West, Joerger led the the Grizzlies to an impressive 7-1 road record and won 10 of their last 11 games.
Other nominees for Coach of the Month were Bulls’ Tom Thibodeau, Rockets’ Kevin McHale, Clippers’ Doc Rivers, Knicks’ Mike Woodson, Thunder’s Scott Brooks and Raptors’ Dwane Casey.
