Orlando Magic’s veteran point guard Jameer Nelson sprained his index finger during the third quarter against the Denver Nuggets Saturday night. Nelson requested X-rays on his hand but they came back negative.
It has been a rough five game road trip for head coach Jacque Vaughn and his team.
In the first game of the trip, Nikola Vucevic took a nasty fall after rolling off Blake Griffin’s back and landing on his head and hip during the third quarter against the L.A. Clippers Monday night. He walked off on his own power but was later diagnosed with a concussion. Vucevic was sent home to Orlando and will be held out of all activity until he is symptom free and has successfully completed the NBA concussion return-to-participate exertion protocol.
During the third game of the road trip, Magic’s leading scorer Arron Afflalo strained his right foot. He missed the Magic’s game against Denver and it is unclear if he will play against the Dallas Mavericks Monday night.
With Afflalo out, Maurice Harkless stepped into the starting lineup. Harkless only played 17 minutes before being benched because of a sore knee. The Magic will have Sunday off and will get some rest before facing the Dallas Mavericks Monday night for their fifth and final game of the road trip.
If Afflalo, Nelson and Harkless are unable to play against the Mavericks, Vaughn will be down to only eight available players.
