Anthony, Cousins Named NBA Players of the Week

Carmelo Anthony and DeMarcus CousinsCarmelo Anthony and DeMarcus Cousins were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for games played  Monday, Jan. 6, through Sunday, Jan. 12.

The Knicks have struggled throughout the season but in the past week Anthony has led them to three straight victories over the Heat, Pistons and 76ers. In those three games, Anthony averaged a conference second best 27 ppg. and 2.33 spg. He also scored 29 points, had eight rebounds and added five assists in the 102-92 win over Miami.

Cousins also led his team to a 3-0 week, by winning against the Portland Trail Blazers, Orlando Magic and Cleveland Cavaliers. Cousins has recorded 10 straight double-doubles and averaged 25 points per game (seventh in conference) and 12.7 rebounds per game (second in conference) this past week.

Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks

Jan. 7 vs. Detroit: Scored 34 points, four rebounds and four steals during a 89-85 win over the Pistons.

Jan. 9 vs. Miami: Scored 29 points, eight rebounds and five assists during a 102-92 win over the Heat.

Jan. 11 @ Philadelphia: Scored 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists during a 102-92 win over the 76ers.

DeMarcus Cousins, Sacramento Kings   

Jan. 7 vs. Portland: Scored 35 points and 13 rebounds during a 123-119 win over the Trail Blazers.

Jan. 10 vs. Orlando: Scored 24 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and three steals during a 103-83 win over the Magic.

Jan. 12 vs. Cleveland: Scored 16 points and 11 rebounds during a 124-80 win over the Cavaliers.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week included Nets’ Joe Johnson, Nuggets’ Ty Lawson, Pistons’ Josh Smith, Clippers’ Darren Collison and Blake Griffin, Grizzlies’ Mike Conley, Trail Blazers’ LaMarcus Aldridge and Spurs’ Tim Duncan.
