Adam Silver Wants To Raise NBA’s Minimum Age

Even though there are two 19-year-old players entering the NBA Draft this year, league commissioner Adam Silver wants to raise the minimum age.

“I’m in favor of raising the minimum age from 19 to 20,” Silver said before the NBA draft lottery in New York.

According to, Silver’s goal is to have the age limit changed when the next CBA is negotiated with the players’ union, which could happen in 2016.

He points out that he wants to cover the gap between college scholarships and additional expenses to ensure that players are covered for career-ending injuries.

League owners did discuss raising the age limit with NCAA president Mark Emmert.
