When Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson called out Miami Heat forward LeBron James of “trash talking”, he was hoping to frustrate James, but it appears that only pushed James to perform better Monday night.
“I was trying to get into his head, but I guess he stepped up and got the win,” Stephenson said, via Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports:
James had a lot to say for Stephenson during the Heat’s 97-89 victory in Game 3 on Saturday. After repeated questions about Stephenson after Sunday’s practice, James said he wasn’t going to engage in a battle of words to give the media a story. Stephenson, however, didn’t hold back.
“To me, I think it’s a sign of weakness because he never used to say nothing,” Stephenson said on Sunday. “I used to always be the one who would say, ‘I’m going to do something to get you mad.’ “
James told reporters he “got a smirk out of that.”
