Heat Going Into Draft Night With No Pick

MIAMI (AP) — It’s probably not conceivable for the two-time defending champion Miami Heat to get markedly better during Thursday’s NBA draft, for one simple reason.

Going into draft night, the Heat don’t have a pick.

Their first-round selection this season is the property of the Phoenix Suns, after a series of trades involving the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs originally obtained what would have been the No. 30 pick in this draft as part of the sign-and-trade deal that formally sent LeBron James to Miami in 2010.

And what would have been Miami’s second-round pick now belongs to the Memphis Grizzlies, as part of the Dexter Pittman trade this past season.
