In April, veteran NBA center Jason Collins made history by becoming the first active player in any of the four major sports to come out as gay. He became an icon overnight, drawing support from all corners of the sports world.
Less than three weeks before the start of the 2013-14 NBA season, he’s still looking for a job.
“I feel there are players in the league right now that, quite frankly, I’m better than,” the 34-year-old Collins told the New York Times on Wednesday.
He wouldn’t speculate on whether his status as an unsigned free agent was due to his sexuality.
