Since the NBA became a league in 1946 they have been the only professional sports league in North America to play an annual Christmas Day game. This year will be no exception as basketball fans will have plenty of games to watch from around noon till late into the evening.
Noon ET is when things get started with ESPN as the Chicago Bulls visit the Brooklyn Nets for the first of five games on the NBA slate for Christmas Day. Then at 2:30 p.m. ET about six miles and about twenty subway stops we move over to Madison Square Garden for game two of the NBA holiday festival.
The New York Knicks will play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a game that can be seen on ABC.
ABC will also air the third game of the day in what might have been the marquee match up of the day as the defending World Champion Miami Heat and in Los Angeles to face the Lakers. We now know that they will be without Kobe Bryant but hey these are two great teams and so why not enjoy seeing them get after each other in a game set to tip at 5 p.m.
We return to ESPN this time at 8 p.m. as our next stop on the Christmas Day NBA train is in the beautiful city of San Antonio where Tim Duncan and the Spurs will entertain their cross state rivals the Houston Rockets.
Then we say a happy good night to a day full of cheer ends in Oakland as the Golden State Warriors will take on the winning team from Los Angles and that of course is the Clippers. Santa might have saved the best game of the day for the last. This one tips at 10:30 p.m. on ESPN.
Here is hoping you enjoy your holiday and maybe take in a little hoops on that new TV or tablet you got for Chrismas.
