The Washington Nationals fear that Bryce Harper may miss significantly longer than his 15-day disabled list stay because of a thumb injury, sources say, possibly missing several weeks.
Harper is scheduled to see a hand specialist Monday, so there’s still some uncertainty until that exam, but it is possible he could miss a comparable amount of time to that of Angels’ OF Josh Hamilton, who will miss 6-8 weeks.
Like Hamilton, Harper injured his thumb on a head-first slide. Nate McLouth is likely to be Harper’s main replacement.
