Jameis Winston was named to the Baseball America preseason All-America team. Not bad he can put that on his resume next to reigning Heisman Trophy winner and quarterback of the defending national champion Florida State Seminoles.
Baseball America has them on their third team as a utility player. Last year Seminoles fans will recall that as a freshman Winston was a two-way player for the Seminoles, making 32 starts in the field as well as 17 relief appearances.
Most baseball scouts like his arm and his ability as a closer but his speed and ability to play the corner outfield positions other intrigued. However, he was not a big time hitter he with a .235 with seven doubles, three triples and 21 runs scored. Winston made 22 starts in the outfield and 10 at designated hitter.
The most resent Baseball America poll has FSU ranked sixth in the country and they will open the 2014 season at home son Feb. 14 against Niagara.
As for Winston he was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB draft. He’s the 20th-ranked sophomore prospect, according to Baseball America.
