Watson Scores Brace, Lions Top Battery 2-1 Thursday Night

Club breaks mid-week attendance record with 8,729 fans at Fifth Third Bank Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl
ORLANDO, Fla.— Orlando City SC (10-2-4, 37 points) downed the visiting Charleston Battery (7-3-6, 27 points) 2-1 Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl in front of a club mid-week record crowd of 8,729 fans. Jamie Watson scored a goal in each of the halves to propel the Lions to a crucial home win in USL PRO play, moving Orlando further ahead in the league table.

While on loan from Sporting Kansas City, the 2011 MLS Rookie of the Year C.J. Sapong and Defender Kevin Ellis both started in the Orlando City game Thursday night against the Charleston Battery. The pair stayed in the entire game and Jamie Watson had nothing but nice things to say about them, “I thought Kevin and CJ did very well.” Also, Watson said the team is always looking to improve when talking about new players coming into the mix. In the match, Watson scored his 9th and 10th goal on the season and is still the assists leader with six on the year.

For the next game, Orlando City should consider switching the field more often. More so in the first half, Orlando kept the play limited to one side of the field and if they would had opened up the field more it would had given them more opportunities. A good example of this was the first goal of the game because of the passing beforehand and the midfielders opening up helped to get the cross in to Watson’s feet and into the back of the net.

The next match for Orlando will take place at the Dayton Dutch Lions. That game will be the 4th of six games in a 17 day stretch. The last time these two teams met was in Orlando on April 27 and City shut out Dayton 4-0.
